The objective is researching new technologies that allow people and machines to cooperate synergistically, sharing activities efficiently and in a safe manner. The workplace will be redesigned according to specific ergonomics rules and the work organized according to an adaptable pace, to provide work environment and work conditions suitable for all people, to work in a productive manner regardless of age, gender, physiological or pathologic features. Likewise, the use of enabling technologies aimed at a digital representation of the factory favours the integration of information and knowledge. Priority research topics in this area are, for instance: robots and machines that cooperate with human operators in a safe manner in order to free them from burdensome low added value operations; new man-robot interfaces that can enhance and multiply possible uses of the factory’s devices and equipment, exploiting various technologies such as mechatronics, control, sensors and materials; ICT solutions to increase the resources for people’s safety and development; virtual and augmented reality technologies for the operators’ training in a safe and controlled environment, made of a digital representation of the factory, and for remote maintenance and management of production sites.
