FBK-CMM (Bruno Kessler Foundation– Materials and Microsystems Centre) is an applied research centre that matches scientific excellence with the ability of taking advantage of the results of research carried out by national and international networks, with the goal of optimizing skills through open innovation. FBK-CMM develops innovative solutions in the sectors of materials, microsystems, renewable energy and the environment. The Centre develops innovative solutions for industrial automation. In the field of sensors, the Centre develops innovative solutions for industrial automation. FBK-CMM employs about 120 researchers and engineers and manages large-scale plants for research and industrialization of products, including a Micro-machining zone (ISO 4-5, ISO 9001) and a chemical-physical and analytical laboratory for the characterization of micro- and nano-materials. The Centre, which collaborates with businesses inside and outside the European Union, has generated more than 20 patents in the last years. More than 40 development and service contracts per year with private companies and an average of 15 projects with international organizations accounts for an overall yearly turnover of 5 million Euros in the budget of the Centre. As result of the enhancement of CMM’s research activities, more than 10 spin-off companies have been generated.
